FAQs

Answers about the plan, including eligibility, options, enrollment, customer service and more.

  • Why is eyecare important?

Besides helping to maintain sight, routine eye exams can detect a number of serious health conditions, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetes. Eye exams for children can spot undiagnosed vision problems that can affect learning and development if left untreated.
  • Who is eligible to enroll in an individual vision plan?

Association members and their eligible dependents may enroll on an individual basis. VSP offers different plan options, including:

    1. Individual only (One-person plan)
    2. Individual + dependent (Two-person plan)
    3. Family

Spouses and domestic partners are eligible dependents. A child is an eligible dependent if he/she has not reached their 26th birthday and is dependent upon the insured for support. Children with a disability may also be eligible for continued coverage past age 26. Pricing does vary between these plan options.

  • How do members pay for an individual or family plan?

Two options are available. Members can pay for the annual premium at the time of purchase or they can elect to pay on a monthly basis. With either option, VSP can take payments via bank draft (ACH). When purchasing an individual plan, the member is authorizing payment to be deducted automatically from the account provided.

Our standard plan will save members hundreds on their eye care and eyewear.
  • Can members see any VSP Doctor?

VSP members can see any one of our 34,000 doctors nationwide. VSP doctors are located right where they’re needed—near residential areas and offices. And, many doctors have evening and weekend hours.
  • How long does VSP coverage last?

Members enroll with a contract and benefit period of one full year. After 12 months, plans will automatically renew and members will receive a renewal notice 60 days prior to their renewal.
  • When can a member begin using their benefits?

The effective date is the first of the month following a member’s sign up date (members must allow five business days for enrollments to process). Members can select an option to use their benefits six days after their enrollment if they inform a member services representative upon enrollment.
  • What is the member's ID number?

New VSP members will receive a unique member ID number and a member guide with instructions on how to use their benefit via email after enrollment.
  • Is there a website for members to visit to view plan details?

Yes, after a member's plan is effective, members can register on www.vsp.com to view their personalized plan details and to find a VSP doctor.
  • How does the plan renew?

VSP sends reminders 60 days in advance of the auto-renewal in case the member wishes to make any changes to their plan. The plan will then automatically renew at the end of the membership term on an annual basis and VSP will automatically charge for the appropriate amount.
  • How can a member access their vision coverage and eligibility information?

VSP members can register and sign on to www.vsp.com or call member services at 1-844-641-6718 for personalized vision coverage information.
